while Earthbound wasnt really fun to play most of the time and was actually really annoying to play in a few parts, id still consider it a good game that demonstrates the strengths of the genre: to make a player feel involved in and attached to a story by having them invest time in it and give minimal input to how it plays out. thats why when people tell jorp-loving faggots to just read books that will be a billion times better written they dont listen, its a different and unique way of experiencing a story. it resonates really well with some people and others absolutely loathe it, because even if you like em its hard to argue they arent generally really simplistic and repetitive as hell
